Pabst Blue Ribbon presents Weird Science; An Adult Science Fair

Fuel Your Curiosity for Science and Partying with the first annual Weird Science: Adult Science Fair. Calling all Innovators, Explorers, Makers, Thinkers, Dreamers, Creators, and most importantly Party-ers for an evening of innovative concepts and discovery.

 

The Weird Science: Adult Science Fair is a judged, one-night competition of concepts pertinent to the theme "Partying", with sound scientific or technical basis. Suitable themes include - and are not limited to:

 

Pabst Blue Ribbon

Wine & Spirits

Craft Beer

Party Games

Hangovers 

Intoxication/Sobriety

Mixology 

Alcohol Consumption

Party Environment, etc. 


The Weird Science: Adult Science Fair is open to both teams and individuals 21 or older.

*All Project Submissions due by Friday, March 23rd.*

 

How this whole thing works

You submit your project here on this website. Our panel of Science and Party experts will choose 15 experiments or investigations to showcase and compete for $500 cash prize, 1 year supply of PBR, 1 year unlimited bowling at North Bowl, Next Fab Foundations Class Pack that includes 2 months of membership, and 2 tickets to Science After Hours at The Franklin Institute for the year! 

 

Every chosen Weird Science Fair participant will receive a swag bag filled with goodies, one case of Pabst Blue Ribbon, and a $50 Visa Gift Card to be used towards your project.

Project Guidelines

Keep it safe

No Uncontrolled, hazardous materials, or toxic substances (aside from alcohol of course)! No harming of animals or other humans.

Be 21 or over

Yes, you've got to be legal to party and you've got to be legal to participate in the Weird Science; Adult Science Fair.

Stick to the Theme

We spend so much time partying, so why not learn more about it. Keep your concepts within the partying theme.

Keep it weird

Be Creative, Get Funky, Wow us with your investigation and/or invention. Stay Weird.

JASON CARROLL

PBR North East Field Marketing Manager

Jason is the marketing manager at Pabst Blue Ribbon, specializing in events all over the North East. When he’s not working for Pabst, you can find Jay curating his own events and  DJing around Philadelphia.

NIKKI DEANGELIS

RESEARCH SCIENTIST

Nikki DeAngelis is a Research Scientist for a major pharmaceutical company in the Philadelphia area.
When not discovering new therapies for Oncology indications Nikki can be found volunteering at STEM events, working on her PhD or traveling.
Nikki comes from an eclectic science background ranging from wildlife and land use management to bioscience technology. A graduate of both Penn State and Thomas Jefferson Universities Nikki is a well qualified judge for this particular competition.

Science is everything to Dan. As a Biology graduate at Rutgers, he strives to make science accessible to everyone by incorporating pop culture references and easy to follow analogies.

Big Pharma Scientist

Kim is a scientist for a major pharma company working to get new drugs to patients, but has also started an elementary school science club, spoken about STEM careers to middle school girls & is mentoring a high school science student in addition to being a rabid soccer fan.

"Isobel Arthen is a Science Interpreter at The Franklin Institute, where she communicates a variety of scientific concepts to guests of all ages. With a background in environmental science, Isobel is a dirt enthusiast and is most at home when she is chest-deep in a wetland."

Franklin Institute Adult Programs Specialist 

Adam is the curator of Science After Hours and other adult programs at The Franklin Institute Science Museum.  When he's not at the museum you can find him attending music festivals and concerts, sometimes presenting science content along the way proving that no place is too strange to spread some science.

Weird Science Project Example

 Project or Invention Name: Blue Ribbon Plant

 
Participant/Team member name(s): John Smith


Concept: What happens to a plant when you serve it 1 can of PBR per day for a whole month? 


Hypothesis: If a plant is fed 1 can of PBR per day for a whole month it will grow faster than if it didn't.


Materials: 1 case of PBR, 2 Plants
 

Procedure: Place Plant A & B side by side in area of home with ample sunlight. Remove 1 Can from case of PBR on day 1 and pour into Plant A's soil. Water Plant A & B with 1 cup of water. Repeat.

 
Analyze plant and showcase your findings at North Bowl on Friday, April 6th.

What's a Weird Science Fair about partying without people to party with? The Weird Science: Adult Science Fair is open to the public and will host a People's Choice Category for all participants. Each guest who enters will be given a chance to cast their vote for their favorite experiment or invention. Plus there will be tons of great drink specials, food specials, and prizes just for coming out! Let's get weird.

The upstairs loft offers a semi-private bowling experience with four lanes, a 50-seat bar, pool tables, arcade games, and spacious lounge.
